Do you love to paint your model cars? Have you been painting them by hand but now want to learn a new technique? Why not learn to airbrush? Airbrushing your model car is something that is actually very easy to learn. You can get the basics down quickly and with a little practice you will get the advanced techniques as well.
Before you begin there are several items that you will need. Most of these can be picked up at a local hobby shop. Some of the local retail stores even carry kits that come with several of these items as well. The first thing you will want is a basic airbrush kit. It should come with the nozzles, hose, jars, covers, etc. It may or may not include a small compressor but your best bet is to find one that does. Just tell the salesperson what you are looking for and they should be able to point you in the right direction.
The next thing you need is personal protective equipment. These items will protect you from accidental inhalation as well as protecting your skin from the paints and cleaners. The items you need are latex gloves, safety goggles, and respiratory protection (breath mask). Painting supplies that you will need include airbrush paints, wet and dry sandpaper, rubbing alcohol, airbrush cleaner, and drafting tape. It is a wise idea to also pick up a small cheap bathroom fan to use for ventilation. Once you get everything home you are ready to build your paint booth.
Take an old cardboard box that is big enough for you to work on your model comfortably and cut out the top and one side. On the side opposite of the one you removed cut a hole big enough for the small fan to fit in. Place the fan in backwards so that it will vent air out of the box. This will provide adequate ventilation while you are airbrushing your car. Once you begin airbrushing you might want to wear a smock or an old shirt in case over spray gets on your clothes. Also, you should do your painting outside. The over spray that vents through fan can be blown all over the place and can make quite the mess. Some of this can also be prevented by loosely wiring a piece of cardboard over the side of the fan that is outside the box. This will allow some air to blow out but most of the paint should collect on the cardboard. Once you have built your simple paint booth you should be ready to begin.
Make sure that you have properly assembled your airbrush and are using a paint that is compatible with the model’s construction. It may be that your model requires a particular type of paint. Also, you should make sure whether or not you need to use primer for your model. If it is then you will start your project by priming each piece. One thing to watch for is that most adhesives have an issue with sticking to primers. You may want to carefully scrape away the primer from the area that will receive the glue. Before you actually begin to airbrush your model car you should practice your technique. Using a piece of scrap metal or plastic try painting with the brush a couple of times. One thing you will want to remember is that if you want to get a good even finish then you have to spray with an even stroke going from one side to the other. Make sure you do not release the trigger until you have gone a bit past.
Once you have airbrushed your first few models you will be ready to try some more advanced techniques. Before you do make sure you practice whatever stroke it is that you are going to attempt. With enough practice you will have little trouble picking up these advanced techniques.

The principle use of Grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a holder for removing hot pans from the oven; It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. From the chicken-coop the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids; and when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled it carried out the hulls. In the fall the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that “old-time apron” that served so many purposes.
Send this to those who would know, and love the story about Grandma’s aprons.
This story was sent to me by someone who thought I would enjoy it. I do and think you will too.
Does it stir up memories for you?
Then take a few minutes today to either write them down or tell them to a child.

I’m going to tell you that using vertical space inside your garden area can produce a wonderful organic garden of any kind. We are going to go over a few vertical vegetable garden suggestions to grow your organic vegetables in small spaces. Urban gardeners use many strategies to grow their gardens and this is a great system
Vertical gardening uses wall planters, arbors attached to some walls, old palets, or trough planters fitted having a trellis to grow your plants. Think vertical, plants grow upwards so it’s natural and productive.
Vertical Vegetable Garden Fundamentals
Planning for a vertical garden begins like every other garden. Start by determining fundamental garden needs:
•Locate the site.
•Determine the sunshine exposure.
•Determine water access, drainage and watering tools needed.
Next, the urban garden enthusiast needs to make the decision on the kind of vertical container(s) that’ll be used. Vertical vegetable garden ideas, can be found in garden centers that incorporate a planter made to grow a tomato plant while suspended from a hook, a trough type planter package which includes a self-watering reservoir system or perhaps a vertical hydroponic garden planter.
Vertical gardeners will discover many different ways for growing vegetables in small spaces. Other ideas include developing an espalier, the industry planting technique that enables a garden enthusiast to develop a fruit tree inside a narrow vertical space. Or use a piece of chain-link fencing to aid climbing plants.
Vertical Wall Planters
An outdoor wall, constructed with 2 x 4’s, plastic-covered chicken wire, and black plastic, installed on a wall or built onto a free standing frame, is a superb vertical garden idea. Large trough formed planter boxes mounted on a wall make a great vertical garden, too. In most cases, plan the way the planters is going to be maintained after the summer season or taken apart for winter storage.
Planting A Vertical Vegetable Garden
Plants grown outdoors in vertical gardens may include flowers, natural herbs or wonderful organic vegetables. Plants that climb, trail, creep or ramble are candidates for any vertical garden. Avoid climbing plants that sucker onto a surface when the wall planter is near a brick surface.
Vegetable plants produced for small space gardening, that naturally trail or cling, work nicely but consider patio, grape or cherry tomatoes are great vegetables to grow. Herbal treatments that creep (think about thyme), or are sheared frequently (think chives or basil), are great options.
Flowering plants for example impatiens, moss roses, annual lobelia, sweet alyssum or sedum are only a couple of good examples of plants that complete mass making the planter seem like a colorful carpet. A butterfly garden, edible garden or perfumed garden can be created in a vertical garden simply by selecting the right plants.
Your vertical vegetable garden is much like any garden style, home gardeners and urban gardeners will attempt to grow many plants to determine what works well with them. Urban gardeners should keep track of achievements and failures throughout each garden season to improve on next years vertical vegetable garden.

Summer is in full swing, which means you’re likely spending as much time as possible outdoors. If you haven’t already done so now’s a great time to gear your garden up with the right furniture and accessories. After all, summer will soon be over – which means you should take advantage of the warmer weather and sunshine while you can.
Everyone’s garden or patio is different, which means how you furnish or accessorise it will be unique to you – not only based on dimensions, but on your taste. You might already have some ideas on how you’d like your garden or patio to look.
But it might also help to look through some print or online catalogues to get even more ideas. You might opt for some lounge chairs to go alongside a pool, or an outdoor dining set for all those outdoor barbeques. Or, why not install a rocking bench – an ideal backyard fixture for those balmy summer months. Just remember to keep features like garden and patio dimensions in mind when looking at larger pieces of furniture or fittings, and consider water proof items that you can keep outside year-round if need be.
But garden furniture is just one aspect of having an inviting garden. You might also want to consider including accessories – such as small statues, outdoor candles, or even small fire torches to give your garden a more tropical feel. Love the relaxing sounds of nature? Why not install a small fountain that trickles water over rocks or pebbles? Or, consider hanging a few chimes that will work with the breeze to relax you year-round.
Plants are another major aspect of any garden, and can give your garden a truly unique look. Consider whether you want mostly flowers, greenery, or a bit of both. And you’ll have to consider how you’ll want all your plants to be organised. Some people prefer a more manicured look, while others are inclined towards a more wild, romantic outdoor look. What’s more, plants will do more than just make your garden look great – they offer a wonderful and relaxing way for you to spend time in your garden. All you need is some basic gardening tools and a little gardening know-how – both of which are widely available.
There are many ways for you to turn your garden or patio into an inviting extension of your home’s social or private space. Whether you choose to add some garden furniture
, accessories, or plants, you’ll undoubtedly love having a more inviting garden.

The purpose of this article is to educate hot tub owners on the importance of as well as how to >clean their hot tub filter. This article is divided into four sections: Why Clean Your Hot Tub Filter; When to Clean Your Hot Tub Filter; How to Clean Your Hot Tub Filter; Helpful Tips for Hot Tub Filter Maintenance;
Why Clean Your Hot Tub Filter Your hot tub’s filter traps debris, contaminants, and metals in the hot tub’s water. By doing so, the filter helps to ensure that your hot tub is operating properly and efficiently and that the water is sanitary and clear (sanitization chemicals, such as chlorine, bromine, or salt, are still required). Continuously operating a hot tub with a clogged filter can lead to larger problems: unfiltered debris can damage your hot tub’s circulation pump and unfiltered contaminants can cause unbalanced and unsafe bathing water.
When to Clean Your Hot Tub Filter The industry standard for hot tub filter maintenance is as follows: Rinse once a month Clean with a filter cleaning solution every two to four months
However, with that said, the duration and frequency at which a filter is cleaned will differ for hot tub owners. How much and how quickly a filter collects debris is dependent on several variables, including usage, whether bathers rinse prior to entering the hot tub, the hardness of the source water, how well the chemicals are maintained at recommended ranges, the environment where the hot tub is located, the make and model of the hot tub, and the type of filter. (See Helpful Tip #1)
For example, some manufacturers recommend that a hot tub is drained and refilled every 50 to 90 days; whereas, Watkins® Manufacturing recommends every 120-180 days for Hot Spring® models (dependent on variables and type of water care accessory-EverFresh® system, FreshWater® ozone, silver ion cartridge, ACE® salt water sanitization system). In areas with higher levels of calcium in the water, hot tub owners may need to change their water more frequently than hot tub owners in areas with low calcium levels in the water.
You should adhere to the manufacturer’s guidelines, but understand that you may be able to, based on your experience with your hot tub, adjust the frequency at which you drain and refill your hot tub. If you have not been following manufacturer or industry recommendations for filter maintenance, here are a few signs that it may be time to clean or replace your hot tub’s filter: Diminished water clarity-water is becoming cloudy Decreased jet pressure Decreased ozone (if installed on your hot tub)-fewer ozone bubbles (Note: this may be a sign of a clogged ozone injector) Alert on control panel-blinking, dotted, or dashed lights (reference your hot tub manual) Dirty filter-if the filter has a cracked end, torn or frayed pleat, collapsed core, or is worn out and dirt stains can not be cleaned, you should replace the filter (See Helpful Tip #2)
How to Clean Your Hot Tub Filter The steps outlined in this section are to be used as a guide and should not replace the instructions in your hot tub manual. 1. Remove the filter from the filter compartment. (Follow the steps outlined in your hot tub’s manual). (See Helpful Tip #3) 2. Rinse the filter (rinsing your hot tub filter should be done once a month). Using a garden hose placed at a 45 degree angle to the filter, gently spray any debris from each filter pleat (make sure the water stream is forceful enough to knock away debris, but gently enough not to tear or damage the filter). 3. Clean the filter using a filter cleaning solution (this should be done each time you drain and refill, at minimum, and with a cleaner that is specifically designed to clean hot tub filters). There are two filter cleaning methods: Spray cleaning: Using a filter cleaner with a spray nozzle, spray down each pleat on the filter. Let filter sit for at least 15 minutes. (Follow the directions on the filter cleaner bottle). Soak cleaning: Using a bucket/container, soak the filter in a cleaner/water mix (follow the mix ratio on the filter cleaner bottle-usually a 1:5 cleaner to water ratio). Let filter sit for at least 1 hour. (Follow the directions on the filter cleaner bottle). 4. Rinse solution and remaining debris from filter by repeating Step 2. 5. Place the filter into the filter compartment and replace any hot tub components that were removed during Step 1. If your hot tub has more than one filter, it is a good idea to rotate the placement of your filters (similar to rotating tires on a vehicle). (See Helpful Tip #4)
Note: If you have a Tri-X® (ceramic filter), it is recommended that you rinse and run the filter through a rinse cycle with no soap in your dishwasher once a month, and that you clean your filter using a filter cleaning solution each time you drain and refill your hot tub.
Helpful Tips for Hot Tub Filter Maintenance Tip #1: Keeping the cover on your hot tub while it is not in use and rinsing off before entering your hot tub will reduce the amount of contaminants and debris that find their way into your hot tub, which extends the life of your filter, water, and chemicals.
Tip #2: When it is time to replace a filter, ensure that you are purchasing the correct filter for your hot tub model. There are numerous shapes and sizes of filters-make sure you purchase one that is designed to fit in your filter compartment and that has a square footage capacity that matches the gallon per minute flow rate of your hot tub.
Tip #3: Your hot tub should be set to circulate the water for at least one hour each day. If you have a Hot Spring spa, your hot tub is designed to circulate your hot tub’s water 24 hours a day. This 24-hour silent filtration process uses less energy than a 40-watt light bulb.
Tip #4: It is useful to have two sets of filters-you can use the hot tub while one of the sets is being cleaned.
Abraham Lincoln said – “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother”
Wow! That is a worthy compliment to give mom this Mother’s Day!
Mothers are the source of our beginning and are always there for us, whether we realize it or not. Could that be one of the reasons why most of us take our mothers for granted?
We just expect her to be there. We pay little attention to the time of day, her schedule, her health or her state of mind when we need her. We just call on her and she shows up and gives us the warmth and comfort we’re desperately looking for. Fascinating, isn’t it?
Mothers are our first teachers and the biggest compliment a mother can get is when you tell her that she is the guiding light in your life and that you want to be like her.
We always think about sitting down with mom one day and telling her how much we appreciate her and how grateful we are for having her as our mother.
What is it that you’d like to tell mom this Mother’s Day?
That you owe it to her for who you are today?
That you did notice all the things she did for you?
That you’re proud of her for raising you the way she did?
That you’re blessed to have her as your mom?
That you’re her biggest fan and dream about being like her?
However, most of us find it hard to share all these feelings with mom, even if we manage to get some time with her!
There are a few reasons why we struggle to have this intimate conversation with mom.
The biggest one of course is that we will mess it all up and it won’t come out the way it should.
A second reason is that our emotions will get the better of us and we don’t want to look silly crying like a baby in front of mom.
But mom needs to know how you feel about her sooner than later!
G. B. Stern said: “Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone”.
So, what is the solution to your problem?
Write a heartfelt love letter to mom this Mother’s Day and share with her the things you’ve been carrying in your heart for a long time.
Unlike a conversation, you can edit your letter a million times before you give it to mom. You can take your time to write it, think through what you want to say and here’s the best part – you can even sleep on it.
Also, a letter is permanent and will make a lasting impression on mom and is something she can read over and over again.
“But, I’m not good at writing letters!” is your next objection, right?
Follow these 6 simple steps and you will be on your way to writing that heartfelt letter to mom:
1. Relax, It’s a Love Letter to Mom – This love letter is an intimate conversation between you and mom and there are no rules to be abided by. Do not get caught up in getting the letter right and using sophisticated words. Even if you make a mistake, is mom going to notice?
2. Collect Your Thoughts – Take some time to think about what you want to say before you start writing. Go down memory lane and think about your growing up years and how mom was an integral part of that. What is the message you want to get across at this moment in your life?
3. Overcoming Writer’s Block – For most people, the difficulty in letter-writing is the start and the close. You don’t have to write the letter in a linear fashion. Write the part that comes to you first. You can always go back and complete the other sections later.
4. Write From Your Heart – Be yourself and write from your heart. Write your letter as if you were there talking to mom face to face. Tell her how much you love her and appreciate her and why.
5. Acknowledge Mom’s Sacrifices – Let mom know that you’ve noticed the sacrifices she’s made and that you appreciate her for all that she does. Mention one or two events from the past to show her that you really remember. The older the event, the more dramatic the impact it will have on mom.
6. Give Mom the Greatest Compliment Ever – Imitation is the best form of flattery! Tell mom that you’re her biggest fan and that you secretly wish to be like her! Tell her that you have learnt well from her and try to emulate her in many ways in your life. If you’re doing something specific with your kids that will make her proud, mention that in the letter.
A Mother’s Day Love Letter written using the above steps will give mom the satisfaction that money can never buy! This letter of yours is sure to be cherished, saved and read many times over, for many years to come!
A final word of caution – Write only what you really feel in your heart.

The great debate continues about should students have to wear school uniforms? There is no definitive answer as it entirely depends upon the persons beliefs. There are benefits for some children who wear uniforms and disadvantages to others.
The main reason schools in America choose not to allow their students to wear their own clothes is because of the gangs. Having a uniform stops gang members from displaying their colours and garb. The schools also believe it helps stop violence and helps instill a sense of pride in the students. It also helps to break down the barriers between different socioeconomic groups.
Below are some opinions taken from a messageboard regarding the issue:
“I feel we should keep to the uniform. It sets an example of the school. It is representation the community. It is easy to point out different people. Also there would be more fights/bullly’s due to the lack of ‘fashion’. “
” Many schools throughout the U. S. force students grades kindergarten through twelfth to wear uniforms. Students who attend public schools should not have to wear uniforms for four reasons.
1. School uniforms inhibit students€™ individuality. Young people often express their feelings through the clothing that they wear. Uniforms will take away this form of expression. Why should school districts try to make everyone look the same?
2. A school uniform policy inhibits a student’s freedom of choice. Schools teach students that our country is a free one. But when school boards make students wear what they tell them too- it curtails the students’ freedom.
3. There is the issue of cost. Many parents shop for their children’s clothes at used and discount stores. Uniforms can cost more money than these families might be able to afford. Also, these students would need to buy additional clothing to wear after school and on the weekends. That’s double the amount of money a family would spend than they would without the uniforms.
4. The last reason I do not enjoy the thought of school uniforms is comfort. Students enjoy wearing comfortable clothing to school. Uniforms are not necessarily comfortable. Also, wearing a uniform might make the student uncomfortable around people outside the school who don’t have to wear a uniform.
If we want individuality, freedom, and comfort for students while keeping costs down for families, we should not have a school uniform policy for students who attend public schools. “
” In my opinion, right up to year 11 students/kids should have to wear school uniform, it stops all the arguments about who has the latest fashions etc.
But when you reach college or 6th form it should stop, because by then your old enough to know not to take the pee out of what people wear. Mind you saying that, most of the people at my 6th form were wallys. “
Dumbo is an elephant known for his high flying and determination by kids world wide. Dumbo’s large ears have him soaring through adventures with his pal Timothy by his side.
Fun Dumbo invitations can be made at home for a Dumbo party. With some grey construction paper and a little imagination invitations for a Dumbo party are a cinch. Just trim the construction paper to form a silhouette of an elephant – make sure to have the ears be larger than normal. Top off the front of the invitation by drawing Dumbo’s signature blue eyes and voila you have a Dumbo invitation. Use a black pen or marker to write the invitation information on one side.
The decoration possibilities are endless for a Dumbo party. If the child prefers elephants then use any kind of elephant decorations throughout the party. Even use snacks such as Circus Peanuts to cater to the theme. Or utilize the circus theme set out in the movie. Decorate your home or the banquet hall like a circus, using Dumbo of course as the crowning element.
A great party game for a Dumbo party would be a feathered twist on Pin the Tail on the Donkey. In this case, have a large picture of Dumbo on the wall. Line up the kids and hand them a feather to be taped onto Dumbo’s trunk. Blindfold the child when it’s their turn and spin them around a couple of times. Don’t get them too dizzy, just twirl them enough so they’re off center. The child who comes closest to pinning the feather to the end of Dumbo’s trunk wins!

Trying to stay in shape while pregnant is no mean feat, and until recently had been considered somewhat taboo.
However, with the press coverage of many celebrity moms and moms-to-be like Britney Spears, Ashlee Simpson, Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie showing off their in-shape bodies, many women would like to discover what the secret is on how to stay in shape while pregnant.
Now, I don’t want to dwell on these celebrity moms, ‘cos let’s not forget that they are surrounded by some of the most highly paid personal trainers, nutritionists, doctors and the like, who make their money from keeping these women in tip top shape – basically their career depends on helping them to stay in shape while pregnant. So comparing yourself to them is not the way to start.
However, there are some simple steps that you can follow to help you to stay in shape while pregnant, making you and your baby healthier, and having an easier labour and delivery. Below, I’ve highlighted the top 3 things you can do to stay in shape while pregnant.
1. Control Your Cravings
Controlling your cravings is one of the most important things you’ll need to do if you’re looking to stay in shape while pregnant.
Pregnancy cravings are perfectly natural as your hormones are going haywire, and your body is telling you it needs certain foods. However, unbridled eating and submission to those cravings is one of the main reasons for excessive weight gain during pregnancy.
Choosing foods that have a low Glycemic Index (GI), like oatmeal will give you a slow and sustained energy release throughout the day, as opposed to sugary foods like chocolate that give quick bursts of energy and then trail off quickly, giving you that tell-tale emotional “drop” that always accompanies high-glucose, high-fat foods.
Try substituting some of the high GI, high fat foods for others that are lower on the scale. For example, eating a cold fruit smoothie or non-fat frozen yogurt instead of ice-cream; whole grains breads with a little jam instead of doughnuts and pastries. . . things like that.
Eating good regular meals will help you to avoid unnecessary snacking which often contributes to consuming high sugar foods, and making it more difficult to stay in shape while pregnant.
Feel free to indulge sometimes though, your baby needs it. And pregnancy is about the best excuse you’ll ever get! 😉
2. Diet = Bad. . . . Eat More = Good!
If you only take one piece of information away from this article, let it be this. . . Pregnancy is NOT the time to be dieting. Going on specific diets in order to stay in shape while pregnant is dangerous and can harm your baby’s health as well as your own. Most diets were never designed to be used during pregnancy, so please avoid using them.
However, there are some things you can do concerning what you eat and when you eat it, that can help you to stay in shape while pregnant.
We’ve already discussed the importance of controlling your cravings, but did you know that eating more regularly can be more beneficial to you than eating less when trying to stay in shape while pregnant?
Snacking is probably the single biggest reason for excessive weight gain during pregnancy, so how can you beat it? Try eating smaller meals more regularly.
You see, the traditional 3 meals a day works well in theory, but as you know, with such hectic lifestyles these days the practice is very different. If you miss one of those meals, let’s say lunch, you are now going several hours without eating. . . at which point the snacking begins.
Start your day with a good healthy breakfast that will set you up for the rest of the day. Make sure you eat a good lunch and dinner, but slightly smaller portions than normal. In between the 3 meals you can set designated times to have another “meal” – not really a full cooked meal as such, but something like a banana, small salad, pasta. . . stuff like that. This should help you to stay in shape while pregnant without the need for dangerous diets.
Beyond making better food choices, getting regular exercise will help you to stay in shape while pregnant.
The amount of exercise you should be doing while pregnant depends on your situation and whether you were particularly active before your pregnancy. Therefore I recommend you consult your doctor before going straight out and busting your tail in the gym or something.
Types of exercises for pregnant women vary, but there is general agreement that stomach crunches and sit-ups are at best risky, and at worst dangerous, and should not be performed. As are any exercises that require you to lie on your front or put pressure on your belly.
Swimming is excellent and there are many pools with classes that cater for pregnant women. Yoga can also be performed which will help you to relax and relieve the back pains that are common while pregnant. Again, make sure you find a qualified Yoga instructor that specialises in pregnant women.
